WorldclockI think that this is just a really cool little gadget for the frequent traveler.  The face of this travel clock doesn’t have numbers, so any side could be up.  All around the side are cities that represent different time zones.  Set it to your time zone and then roll it so that the time zone you need is up.

The Waals World Time Clock is available in black plastic or stainless steel.  It’s ultra compact size will fit almost anywhere.  Search for item number 201874 at Red Envelope.

A New Way To Show Off The Family

Posted by Justin   12/11/07 at 8:25 am Gift Ideas          Comments (1)   | Trackback

DigitalwalletRemember the old days when men would carry around pictures of their family in their wallets?  I used to, years ago.  But in the digital age, getting my hands on a real photo is getting harder to do.  Everything is on the computer.  Sure, I could send away to have them printed, or take a disc to a local shop, but I really just don’t want to be bothered with it.

Maybe this is the new solution of the future for family men.  The My Life Men’s Digital Photo Wallet has a 1.4″ screen that will show up to 55 digital images.  The viewer is rechargable and connects to your computer via USB.  The wallet itself is made of black Nappa leather.

Hip Goggles for All Kinds of Purposes

Posted by Justin   12/10/07 at 8:18 am Gift Ideas          Comments (0)   | Trackback

GermangogglesWe are all guilt of it.  Working out in the garage, the yard, around the house.  Pretty much any tool he uses states to wear safety glasses while using.  But does he do it, NO.  Neither do I.  I guess when we all actually shoot our eye out for real, we’ll wish we had listened to the owner’s manual.

Maybe the trick to using safety glasses is to have some cool ones.  I really like the retro design of these German Goggles.  As the site says “designed for carpentry, chainsawing, or cruising on your Harley”.  The goggles have screw-out safety-glass lenses for easy cleaning and are scratch-resistant.  Only $24!!

A Unusual Review

Posted by Justin   12/7/07 at 8:07 am Product Reviews          Comments (0)   | Trackback

SkinmdAs this blog is read by more and more folks, I’m beginning to get requests to review products.  Some people want me to mention their site or talk about their products.  Many want to send me free stuff to try out or use and talk about it on the site.  Understand that I’m being very careful not to abuse this privilege; I don’t just want free stuff.  In fact, I’ve turned down more than I’ve accepted because I want to give them the time they deserve, and want to stay true to the readers.  I don’t want to talk about something that doesn’t have anything to do with men’s gifts.

So, when I was contacted by the makers of Skin MD Natural shielding lotion, I politely declined.  Come on, lotion?  On a men’s gift blog?  Well they insisted, saying that many guys that work with their hands really use the stuff for it’s protective qualities.  Guys like mechanics, fishermen, chemical worker people.  All right, send some over, but no promises.

Over the last like month I’ve used it here and there.  You know, it’s lotion.  In fact, I had planned not to mention it on the blog, because you know, it’s lotion.

Well last night my wife had me out on the back porch putting up Christmas lights.  This is central Virginia.  Certainly there are much colder areas, but still it’s cold enough here.  So it took me forever.  All the lights were still in the box, so I had to pry each light out of that hard plastic carrier.  I’m working around the porch with the staple gun.  Had to back up once because I cut part of the cord with a staple.  Well I got all the way around and on my last staple, I sliced right through the cord and blew the fuses in the whole line.  Screw it, I’m going inside.

My hands hurt.  The cold, the little cuts from the plastic, the cold.  All right lotion, let’s see what you can do.

Look, you can go to their site to read all the things the dermatologists say.  You can even see a video of some guy pouring acid on his hand after using the lotion.  Well forget all that.  Let me tell you from a guy that doesn’t know anything except that his hands hurt, this is great stuff.

Easy Oil Changing For The Do-It-Yourselfer

Posted by Justin   12/6/07 at 8:21 am Gift Ideas          Comments (0)   | Trackback

OilchangeHow often do you change your oil?  Yeah, you, how often?  Well it takes me forever.  I’ll drive forever with that little check engine light flashing at me.  By the time I get around to it I will often be a couple thousand miles past where I should have been.  Am I really doing damage to my car?  I don’t know.  It’s not intentional; I just get busy or I forget.  Mostly I hate having to go and get it done.  It’s expensive and it takes a long time.  Okay, 20 minutes, but that’s not including driving time there and back.  I’d do it myself, but I just don’t know how.  And that’s just the car; I don’t think I’ve ever changed the oil in the lawn mower.

Now this little gadget seems to be an interesting solution.  The Oil Changing System makes it easy and fun(?) to change your oil at home, yourself.  It works a lot like a sprayer.  You pump it full of air, but instead of spitting liquid out, you are sucking liquid in!  Stick the hose down the dip-stick tube and suck the oil right out of the engine.  Then take the oil for disposal right in the unit.

Now, I realize that this is a $65 piece of plastic.  But, save some money on each oil change, or better yet, actually change your oil regularly and save on possible repair bills, and the thing’ll pay for itself in no time.

Clean The Grill With Steam

Posted by Justin   12/5/07 at 8:37 am Gift Ideas          Comments (0)   | Trackback

SteamgrillbrushEver go to one of those fancy-schmancy Japanese steak houses where they cook your dinner right at the table?  Actually, I love going to those places; I think the food is great.  Anyway, if you watch the cook, you’ll notice that the only thing that they clean that griddle with is water.  Of course, that huge burst of steam is part of the effect.  But nonetheless, steam is the best cleaner for their work.

Well guess what, there is a tool that gives you the same kind of clean in your grill.  This grill brush has a water reservoir right in the handle.  Press the red button for a burst of steam that goes to work on that caked-on grime.  Of course, you need to do this when the grill is nice and hot.

On another note, we have some more gifts to give away!  Our friends at Spicy Times have stepped up to the plate.  Their store is pretty cool.  They’ve got a nice selection of Tabasco and Chiliwear merchandise.  Everything from hats and shirts, to boxers and golf head covers.  Their stuff is even worn by the PGA pros.  Their CHILIWEAR Performance Camp shirts are worn by Jim Furyk and their TABASCO shirts are worn by Woody Austin and Kirk Triplett!

They always have free priority mail shipping in the USA and focus all their efforts on your customer satisfaction.  The owners tell me that they rarely have returns, which to me is a great measure on how well a store does satisfying their customers.

So for the Birthday Bash Give Away, we will have three prizes from Spicy Times.  You could win either a Pepper Head Cover, a Tabasco Cap, or a Jim Furyk Performance Camp Shirt!

Be sure to stop by Spicytimes.com and take a look at the other stuff they’ve got.

Tame The Tie

Posted by Justin   12/4/07 at 8:53 am Gift Ideas          Comments (0)   | Trackback

TiethingI wear a tie often with my job and I am a victim of fly-away tie syndrome from time to time.  You know what I mean, when a guy’s tie flies over his shoulder, or gets dipped in his lunch, or gets in his way when he’s trying to, um, wash his hands.  Sure I could use a tie tack, but I hate putting holes in clothing.  Those other bars and chains that tame a tie are just not me.

So The Tie Thing is a pretty neat idea.  it uses the buttons on his shirt and the label on the back of the tie to keep it in line.  The five pack gives him one to match almost every color shirt he’ll likely wear.

Video Review of Wurkin Stiffs

Posted by Justin   12/3/07 at 8:36 am Product Reviews          Comments (0)   | Trackback

Well I’ve finally gotten on the video bandwagon. Never thought I’d do it, but there are just some things that need to be shown, rather than written about. Jonathan Boos, the creator of the Wurkin Stiffs magnetic collar stays sent me a sample to try out. Well I’ve been working on this post for weeks, not only using the product, but learning how to record and make a video. Well it’s not good, but maybe no too bad. Take a look:

So overall, I really like Wurkin Stiffs as a gift for the professional guy. I hope Jonathan will let us revisit his product when the new product is out.

Want a free set of WurkinStiffs magnetic collar stays?

I am giving away a free set as part of The Men’s Gift Guide Birthday Bash Give Away! All you have to do is subscribe to the feed, and then use the special link on the feed to enter the contest. It’s that easy. Click here for more information.
