Awhile back I explained the reasons a man needs a shoehorn and gave a nice basic one as a great gift idea for men. Well here is one that is a little more fun. The selling website has a grand total of NO details or information about it, so you may want to call before ordering if you are interested. Also seen at Nerd Approved.

More Advanced Ways To Keep His Mind Spinning

Posted by Justin   6/28/07 at 8:39 am Gift Ideas          Comments (1)   | Trackback

I spoke awhile back about my fascination of Rube Goldberg Machines and discussed a marble tower that was a neat little home version. Well I’ve thought more about this and had another recollection from my youth. As a kid, my dad was a science teacher. So every year or so, we would take a trip to the Maryland Science Center. I remember at the time that there was a huge marble machine there. I stood there for the longest time watching the balls go up the elevator, roll around, hit bells, bounce and land into a trumpet like thing, and on, and on, and on. I didn’t know it what it was called then, this was maybe twenty years ago or more. But I do know that it was something that I haven’t ever forgotten. I wonder if it is still there.

So turns out that making these things is an art. It’s called Rolling Ball, or Kinetic, Sculpture and there are lots of websites of artists all over the web. They’ve got pictures of pieces they’ve done, many huge ones like I remember seeing as a kid. Many of the artisans have a section on their site where you can commission a piece. Don’t get too excited though, a big piece like I remember seeing will easily cost tens of thousands of dollars. Certainly a goal of mine when I have A LOT of disposable income.

In my searching, however, I came across a site by a guy named Jim Brown called The Swirling Brain. Jim makes more “home” versions of these kinetic sculptures out of copper tubing. You can commission a sculpture from him from $40 - $250. Some are desk top, some will hang on the wall or refrigerator. He does one one large model on his site for $2000, however. I find Jim Brown’s art so interesting and certainly hope to own some of his work some time.

The lesson to be learned here is, once again, men love to reminisce about their youth. We are all big kids at heart. If these thoughts of mine remind you at all about your man, then I encourage you to visit Jim Brown’s site the next time you need a truly unique gift for him.

As an added treat, here is a video of one of his masterpieces in action. This is his Grandfather Clock, the $2000 one from above. Boy, I’ve got just the place for this thing in my office!

Diaper Bags for Real Men

Posted by Justin   6/27/07 at 8:49 am Gift Ideas          Comments (1)   | Trackback

I’m a new dad, again. We had our second just three weeks ago. So yeah, sleep is in short supply at our house. Luckily, with the second, you don’t really have to go out and buy a bunch of stuff. We’ve got all the stuff we had for the first one. Which is great, except for the diaper bag. It’s this designer thing that’s green with all of these little white flowers all over it. And boy I tell you, I just LOVE carrying it.

Ladies, if you want him to carry the diaper bag, then don’t get him one that makes him look like a loser. Just like real men help out with the kids; real men need a man’s diaper bag. Get him one of these diaper bag, changing pad, and wristlet (whatever that is) sets made to look and feel like a real baseball or football. They have all of the features of a top of the line diaper bag that I won’t go into because they really aren’t important when you consider that they look and feel like a real baseball or football.

Learning To Fly

Posted by Justin   6/26/07 at 10:31 am Stuff to Check Out          Comments (1)   | Trackback

When deciding on that perfect gift for men, many people often overlook the option of taking him somewhere special. Men love to get out and experience life. That’s why sports games, fishing trips, motorcycles, and many other hobbies are so popular. Just remember, for this to work, it has to be something that he would enjoy. While you may end up having fun too, for it to actually be a great gift for him, it has to be something that appears to be a sacrifice. If he is to feel extra special, he needs to feel like you completely dedicated the trip to something that is just for him; something you would never even think of doing yourself. Although, as I said, you may end up having fun anyway.

Here’s where I’d like to go, probably the closest to flying that you can ever get. Your man may like this also, if so, maybe you’ll want to find this place and take him. (note to my wife: HINT, HINT)

New NCAA Team Lamps

Posted by Justin   6/25/07 at 10:05 am New Stuff          Comments (1)   | Trackback

Well I can’t tell you how pleased I am to announce that The Round Table is carrying NCAA Team Lamps again. Our favorite gifts for men site actually had some last year. However the supplier that we were using was just terrible, shipping was slow, or not at all in some cases, and we had a great deal of damages. Basically, I was sending out apologies left and right. So, early this year, I fired them.

Since then, I’ve been looking for a good replacement as team lamps are actually a great men’s gift. Most men either work in an office, or have an office area at home. For many men, this is one of the only places that he can decorate any way he wants. So naturally, you tend to see a lot of sports team items in these areas. That’s where the lamps come in. These are a really sophisticated addition to that schema.

Our new supplier is worlds ahead of our last. First, their lamps are beautiful. There are several table and floor lamps to choose from, as well as swag lamps, pool table lamps, and game table lamps. Plus, they use innovative shipping packaging that results in a less than 1% breakage rate.

With lots of schools to choose from, chances are his favorite is available. Click here for more information

Unique Gift For Men: Cruzin Cooler

Posted by Justin   6/22/07 at 10:27 am Gift Ideas          Comments (1)   | Trackback

It’s the worst part of outdoor activities. Whether he likes to go camping or fishing, tailgating or the big race, carrying the cooler is the worst. If you are out for a serious party, it can weigh a ton. One guy in front; one in back. Walk 50 yards, set it down. Rinse and repeat. Of course, you can never park close. The good news is that if you truly had a great party, the cooler should be considerably lighter on the way back.

Hold on to your hats, you’re not going to believe this. Never carry again with the Cruizn’ Cooler. A cross between a wheel chair, scooter, and cooler, it’s perfect for long walks across the parking lot or across the street. Four models are available from a 300 watt electric to a 39cc gasoline 4-stroke powerhouse that travels up to 15 miles per hour. They have an up to 15 mile range and are light enough to pick up and carry once you get there. Available in blue, red, black, yellow, and white. Pair it with the blenderblaster for the ultimate, gas powered party. Click here for more information
