Back in the day (yes, I had a day, well, it was more like an hour), my friends (yes, I had, oh nevermind) and I loved to go to Jimmy Buffett concerts. I still have my grass skirt and parrot hat around here somewhere. One of the best parts about a Buffett concert, just like most concerts and sporting events, is the tailgating. We’d get there hours early to just hang out and have fun. It’s like a huge family gathering. You have something in common with everyone there so everyone feels like they know everyone else.

So this one time, at tailgating, we were all ready to go. Burgers were on the grill, pop-up sofa was set, coolers unpacked, and friends arriving; time for that first toast. But, can you guess? No bottle opener. So here is another one of my absolutely free, modern era man tips: nothing makes you feel like more of a jerk than having to go back up the guy in the next party and keep asking “hey, can I borrow that bottle opener again?” every five minutes.

Well we tore that car apart looking for something that would open that cap. Door hinge, no; steering wheel, no; rear-view mirror, ouch, no; emergency jack. THE JACK, YES. Ladies and gentlemen, we spent the entire evening opening beers with a two-foot-long, ten pound, emergency car jack.

Although that night is the stuff of legend, it would have been a lot easier, and maybe just as cool, if I would have had one of these.
