I totally wanted one of these when I was a kid (notice recurrent theme). In fact, I was going to make one. I figured it wouldn’t be too hard, just glue all the pages together, cut out the middle, and there you have it. I could hide all of my super secret stuff in there, bwu-ha-ha-ha-ha (or however you spell a fiendish laugh)!
Luckily, I never actually attempted this; can you imagine the mess I would have made. Actually, I probably would have gotten through two pages and quit. So, believe it or not, all these years later I’ve found a place where you can get one. One of these books would be a great place to stash his stuff: keys, cigarettes, cash, etc.
Secretstoragebooks.com has a huge selection of old books available. You can choose from different genres and sizes (yes; small, medium, large, and xlarge books). Looks like $20 - $30 will purchase most books on the site, although some are a little more.
He won’t be expecting this gift, but my guess is that he’ll think it pretty cool. Even if he’s not a guy that has stuff to stash, he could use it on the coffee table. To hold - THE REMOTE. bwu-ha-ha-ha-ha.

Here is a pretty unique item that piqued my curiosity and would be a perfect gift for men. I sit at a desk all day, papers everywhere; wife complains all the time. So naturally, I like desk stuff, plus I’m a sucker for anything Redskins. So anyway I found this paperweight from The Sports Jewelry Superstore. It is designed to look like the top of a signet ring. Kind of neat, so for $20 I was in.
The item shipped quickly and I had it in hand in just a few days. It arrived in a padded envelope with some bubble wrap. The packaging did the job, but it was a little less than I expected.
This item is beautiful and well detailed. Much more so than the picture shows. This is the sort of thing that a picture can only show so much. The Redskins probably have one of the more complex logos, but the cuts within are sharp and clean. The paperweight actually takes up more of a footprint than you would think from the measurements on the site (W=2.63″ H=1.25″ L=3″). What they don’t tell you, and you can’t see from the picture, is that it is angled toward you. The front edge is only only 1/8″ thick, while the back is more than 1″ tall. It gives it the illusion that it is coming out of the table at you. A felt lined bottom completes the package.
Overall, this is a well done piece. Although the red paint is shiny and complete, my only complaint would be the lack of filling within the logo. Upon closer look, however, this is totally my mistake, as the picture clearly shows this feature.
These particular paperweights only seem to be available for specific NFL teams (Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and Washington). So, if he is a fan of one of these teams, and has a desk job, The NFL Ring Top Paperweight could be a really unique gift for him.

Wow, turns out there are lots of things to do with recycled bicycles. We already talked about the Recycled Bicycle Chain Bowl, now here is a clock made out of the gears!
OK, so I guess the gears are actually called sprockets. Shows what I know. The Double Sprocket Wall Clock is made from a pair of bicycle rings, a cog, and chain for the pendulum. All recycled pieces. The face is laser engraved aluminum, and you’ve gotta love the color.

So remember our Duct Tape Wallet? Well now it appears that there is a kit available for the do-it-yourself-er. In fact, it’s gotten an extensive review on the OhGizmo! blog. The review does a great job of demonstrating the creation process, as well as point out some pros and cons of the product. This looks like a neat little project to keep him busy for a little while. Ever surf around on one of those auction sites? Well lots of people actually can make quite a living by selling stuff on ebay. For any of you that have purchased from the site, you would agree that the picture makes all the difference. If there is no picture, forget it. But what about a crappy picture? Does that make you want to buy? Not me. I want to really see what I’ll be getting. And by the way, I can tell you from experience, it’s REALLY hard to get a good, detailed picture of something small.
Anyone who knows anything about photography will tell you that lighting is the number one problem. Get the lighting right, and you are worlds closer to getting better shots, and bigger ebay profits! Do we all get way too hung up trying to find the perfect gift, and forget the truly simple stuff? If you read his post, you’ll agree that there isn’t much that would have made him happier. Admittedly, this could backfire for certain guys that are so picky about their car that they would pick apart every last detail. But there’s got to be plenty of things along this same line that would work. How about a free weekend, where you hire someone to do yard work for him so he can lay in the hammock he never uses? Invite his friends over and throw him a poker night. Just serve drinks for them all night.

Here’s something you don’t see every day. Or ever. This reminds me when I used to try to sneak a drink into the movie theater. Or when I was in college and tried to sneak, um…soda into the, um…library. The guy at the door would always frisk you to make sure you didn’t have any drinks on your person. Yeah, I went to a rough school.
